Magasand (9.5/10)

Last Saturday, I was sitting at home, wasting time on my computer while the day was passing me by.  I wasn’t busy and thought “let me text Meghan and see what she’s doing” with a tentative plan to take a nap if she was busy.  As a matter of fact, she had just sat down at a cafe for a merienda and invited me to join!  She told me she was in Barrio Salamanca , which is the fancier part of town, and invited me to join.  I took a couple metros and was there in no time!

  • Address: Calle Columela, 4, 28001 Madrid
  • Atmosphere: I don’t know how else to describe this place except to say: totally Instagrammable.  Think steel tables, lots of wood and bring and natural elements.  Hipster art and shelves with various products for sale.  They have table service, but also a counter where you can see a display of their yummy sandwiches and tempting desserts.  They also market themselves as having “incredible magazines”.
  • Type of food:  Typical cafe fare, from coffees and pastries, to a large selection of reasonably-priced sandwiches, smoothies, pizzas, crepes and salads.  HERE is the menu.
  • What we ordered:  Meghan ordered a salad before I arrived, but she also ordered a delicious smoothie (mango and banana lassi) when I came.  I was in the mood for something light, but filling, so I ordered the guiri, which was an open-faced turkey sandwich.
  • Other recommendations:  So many of their sandwiches sound great!  Also they serve huuuuge slices of cake, so I want to go back for some cake and coffee.
  • Tips:  give this place a try!  They have a lot of seating both upstairs and downstairs.
  • Would I recommend it?:  Yes, absolutely.
  • Would I go back?:  Yes.

Rating: 9.5/10 for food, 10/10 for atmosphere.
