Weekend Shenanigans

October weekend Madrid

Good morning and Happy Monday!  Like I said last week, it’s either Monday or it’s the weekend.  There just doesn’t seem to be any in between.  With the blink of an eye, another weekend is in the books and today is Monday.  It’s been a fairly productive Monday so far- I worked on a blog post for my new Bruja’s Bakery blog, worked on a new catering page on my website, uploaded photos, and now I’m writing this post – and it’s only 11 am.  Not too bad!  Enough about Monday though, let’s back up to the weekend, shall we?

FRIDAY

I had to look back on my planner to see what I did on Friday and since there is a lot of pink highlighter, that means there were a lot of orders!  Friday’s are usually my biggest day in Bruja’s Bakery and last Friday was no different.

After all of the bagel / challah pick ups, I ran out the door for a Friday night tour (that was ok – i felt like I was off my game, but with the tours “it takes two to tango”).  As soon as the tour was over, I was on my way to La Latina to meet Luis at La Osita to have craft beer and some AMAZING wings!  Of friend of mine from Mad Wings is making wings there all month and normally, I am not a huge wing fan, but these were SO GOOD.  Nothing like those .50 cent wings in college 😉weekend in October Madrid

The buffalo wings were my favorite and had they given us a bottle of that blue cheese sauce, I would have drank it.  The chocolate ones were like nothing I’ve ever had and the sriracha ones were great- the perfect kick.

SATURDAY

October weekend Madrid
brown rice, roasted asparagus, sweet potato, zucchini, and a fried egg

Saturday was a good day – bagels in the morning, then a workout (that I am STILL sore from!  I am still waddling around because my legs are just so, so sore!), and then a yummy lunch.

In the afternoon, Luis and I biked (Madrid Bici for the win!) to Conde Duque Cultural Center for the VanVan vintage / second-hand and food truck market!  There were a lot of people shopping for clothing and a good amount of food truck action happening.October weekend Madrid

We thought the food and drinks were a little overpriced (like a beer was 4€ plus 1€ for the cup, which was non-refundable.  DUMB.).  So we got a Bite Me donut and called it a day.

From there, we basically drank a lot of beer and ate a few tapas.  Starting with these beers and this tortilla de patatas en caldo (tortilla in broth) as a free tapa (this is why I love Spain).October weekend Madrid

And these beers with a blue cheese & mushroom tosta…

We left home around 6:30 pm and made it home at 1 in the morning and I was compeltely wiped and a little anxious because I had to be up early Sunday…

SUNDAY

…for you guessed it: bagels.

October weekend Madrid

But the good thing about getting up early on a Sunday is that the day feels so long.  We had this lovely breakfast:

challah, cream cheese, smoked salmon, cucumber, tomato, red onion, capers

and then I went back to sleep for a couple hours.  When I got up, it was lunch time so I made some whole wheat pasta (it was the kind of pasta that tastes very healthy…like too healthy). We added red pepper sauce, corn, spinach, and black olives.  It did the trick, but was certainly not my favorite.October weekend Madrid

After digesting, we headed out for an afternoon.  This weekend was perfectly sunny and warm, so we ran/ walked to the center and enjoyed the beautiful day. October weekend Madrid

Our run took us through various neighborhoods and areas: Ponzano, Iglesia, Tribunal & Malasaña, and then over to Chueca to try Aliter Dulcia, a pastry shop that has beautiful pastries.  We tried this rice pudding cheesecake, which was good but not my favorite.

But hey, we had no problem finishing it off!

After our cheesecake stop (who goes running and stops to eat cheesecake?  We do…), we biked home and then headed right back out the door.  This weekend, we are going to GENEVA for a big party and while I already have the dress, the shoes, the jewelry, I didn’t have a coat.  Luis said this one wouldn’t work UNFORTUNATELY- because I loved it.October weekend Madrid

And that brings us back to now- Monday, 12:09 pm and I am going to go eat a snack then go run a couple errands.  I usually try to work in the morning and then go for a walk when I go stor crazy, aka now.  See ya later!
