Hey, hey!
What happened? It was just Friday and now it’s already Monday. Monday’s aren’t too terrible ’round here because it’s my only day off of the week. To ease the pain for the rest of you, lucky for us, the week is only 7 days long, so Friday (or Thursday, if that’s when your weekend starts) is just around the corner. Hang in there!
This past weekend was a really fun one and flew by because of all the “outs” I was doing: Eating out, Hanging out, Going out, Vegging out, Working out, and Brunching!
(Side Note: I have now written the word “out” so many times that I seriously can’t tell if I am spelling it correctly. It’s one of those weird mind things that happens when you use a word too much! In middle school, we were learning about dinosaurs, and by the end of it, I couldn’t remember what I dinosaur was…)
Eating Out
Lots of eating out happened this weekend! Well, a lot for my standards. I don’t go out to eat too often, but really enjoy the social aspect and being able to try new things. This weekend brought me to two new-to-me restaurants! On Friday night, I went out to eat with Maeghan and Collin. We have all been best friends since eighth grade and they are the only friends that I consistenly stay in touch with when I’m at school! We had plans to try a Korean BBQ restaurant, but when we found ourselves going to dinner at 10 pm, we scrapped those plans and went to Mad Mex. It’s a funky bar/ Mexican place that people seem to love. I’m sure you’ve heard of it since it’s a chain (or is it a franchise? Or is that the same thing?), but I hadn’t heard of it before that day since I live under a rock, apparently.
All of the photos I tried to take are pretty blurry since the restaurant was dark and I didn’t want to be that person taking pictures with the flash. Maeghan and Collin ordered some sort of frozen sangria drinks, which were refreshing (and strong)- I had a sip, but no more since I drove. We all ordered dinner, as well. Leave it up to be to go to a Mexican place and order the only Thai option they have on their menu 🙂 When I saw the words “peanuts, pineapple and coconut curry sauce”, I was sold. It was basically a burrito with those ingredients + tofu and bean sprouts and rice. It was good, but I think Mad Mex is better known for their drinks. I definitely plan to go back when someone else is driving and get the whole experience!
The other restaurant I went to this weekend was TreVi, a local Italian BYOB. After work on Saturday, the pool staff went out for our first staff dinner. We ordered so much food. I tried to keep it light and ordered an arugula, candied walnut and pear salad. It was pretty basic, but that’s what I wanted. I remembered halfway through the plate that I am slightly allergic to walnuts…I also had a slice of white pizza with asparagus and caramelized onions. I liked it a lot- really smoky tasting.Hanging Out
Okay, I’m not sure that I did much “hanging out” this weekend, unless work counts. I worked 25 hours from Friday to Sunday. We take our work very seriously, especially when we have 13 hour days at the pool.Going Out
I didn’t go “out out” this weekend, but we had our first staff party after the staff dinner. Most of the photos were blurry, unfortunately, but I didn’t realize what was wrong on my camera until the next day. Fail.Vegging Out
The only vegging (is that even a word) that I did this weekend was last night. Russ finally moved into his new (huge) apartment so we celebrated with warm, ooey-gooey brownies & ice cream and the last episode of Breaking Bad. Two things: 1) I’m all for home-cooking and “from scratch is always better”, but when it comes to brownies–boxed mixes ALL THE WAY. Especially Ghiradelli. They were so, so, so chocolatey and added m&ms were perfect. I ate my fair share of that house-warming gift. My bad. I’ll just need to bring more gifts in the form of food. I don’t think they’ll mind. 2) Breaking Bad is SO GOOD. I have never followed a TV series through every season, but I love this show. August 11th can’t come soon enough! I want to know what happens!
(I take that back–August 11th can take as long as it needs to get here. I’m not ready for this summer to be over yet!)
Working Out
This was the “out” that I had the least time for this weekend, but I fit it in where I could.
Friday: 3 mile run (outside, in the 97 degree weather. A lot of people honked at me. I’d like to think they were encouraging me, but I really think they were saying “What the —- are you doing? You’re crazy”. I may be nuts, but I’m not crazy enough to continue running if I didn’t physically and mentally feel great. Although the heat usually slows me down, I felt good despite the extreme temps. Also, running provided a nice little breeze 🙂 I also used the elliptical for 10 minutes and did some ab stuff.
Saturday: 1/2 hour swim
Sunday: 1 hour swim, split into 3 sessions
Monday: 3 mile run outside, 10 minutes of sprint intervals on the treadmill, biceps workout, ab workout
Okay, that wasn’t actually as bad as I thought. Actually, pretty good!
Brunching
This isn’t an “out”, but I didn’t know how to make it work. Brunching out? Nah. We sadly didn’t have Sunday Brunch last week since I was at the beach, but we continued our little tradition this weekend!
We originally planned to have a “Breads and Spreads” brunch with interesting foods, but I didn’t have any time to go shopping with my dad, so we had:
Banana-Cream Cheese Stuffed French ToastThe stuffing was made with cream cheese, cottage cheese, orange juice, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. How scary is the above picture?! I have no idea what I was doing.
Strawberry-Blueberry-Mango-Cherry-Banana-White Peach-Fig Fruit SaladI don’t know what we will do in the winter….
CoffeeWe also had a little photo-shoot with Toby and Misu. Don’t they just look thrilled?! And yes, I know, I look great in the morning…Congratulations! You made it to the end of the longest post ever. See, told you my weekend was jam packed! Next weekend will be even better 🙂
I’m off to run a bunch of errands and hopefully take a shower. I sure do need it.
