Good day!
I’m dropping in to share some photos from our relaxing getaway to Malaga two weekends ago! I have so many things I want to share, but every day that I wait to write, I get more and more into too-far-gone territory, so I am going to try to catch you all up on the important events, like going to Malaga!
Luis and I have been there every summer since our first year dating (except last summer — oops) and it’s always such a relaxing place to be. To read past posts, check here and here! The sand, the water, the waves, just us- relaxing, eating, exploring, running, drinking, and hunting and killing the colony of mosquitos that infested the apartment the first night and bit my entire face!!! Not bitter about that, though…
Bites all over my face !
We took the AVE train on Thursday night (and were well-prepared with tortilla bagels!)
…and arrived to the apartment a little after midnight, so after a quick hunt of the mosquitos, we went to sleep!!
On Friday morning, we headed out to search for a yummy Spanish breakfast and a yummy Spanish breakfast was had!
Full and ready to go, we went food shopping, went to the pharmacy to get cream for all of my bites and then headed to the beach and it was innnncredible.
Perfectly breezy, but warm and the waves were huge – it was relaxing to watch them crash. In the late afternoon, we went for a long walk and then stopped for lunch at a chiringuito (beach restaurant specializing in fresh fish) and had mediocre fish.

Ask me how that’s even possible that we had rubbery fish and I’ll tell you I have no idea!! The fish was rubbery and just not very good, and I don’t think it was even fresh. It was ok though, and we spent the rest of the afternoon lounging on the beach. Around 8, we went for a 30 min run along the promenade and then showered, changed, and headed into the center of Malaga for drinks and dinner (we didn’t really end up having dinner, but we had some snacks and some cold beers).
Fun fact about that photo of us together: we took the same photo 3 years ago in the same restaurant! Here it is!
On Saturday, we used the car and headed towards Marbella, but stopped along the way to spend the day in Mijas which was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Soft sand, beautiful blue water, very clean, and not toooo full.
Oh, and a lot of naked people!! We didn’t realize it was a naturist beach but let’s just say, my long walk along the beach didn’t include much looking at the ocean… I mean it’s like looking at a car accident… can’t look away….
We shared a sandwich and a couple drinks at a local chiringuito and later in the afternoon, we headed to Marbella to walk along the promenade. When we got back, we ate a salad, showered and then headed to try Bagazo, a restaurant owned by one of my teachers!!
What a cool experience and the food was awesome- our favorite in Malaga and one of the best burgers we have ever had and they took amazing care of us! Highly highly recommenddd if you are looking for something more modern in Malaga!
Sunday was our last day in Malaga so we started with a beach side run and then showered and changed into bathing suits for our last stint at the beach. We sat and enjoyed the views for a couple hours and then packed up to get some lunch at our favorite Malaga Italian restaurant and if I’m being honest, the best Italian we have had in Spain.
The stuffed pasta was awesome and we were both licking the sauce off he plate. As soon as we finished, we packed up the house, cleaned everything and then headed to the train… another great Malaga weekend in the books.
