It completely blows my mind that Thanksgiving is already upon us! It was just summer, wasn’t it, and here we are- preparing for a bunch of people to descend on the piso for a big Friendsgiving. Thanksgiving is, without a doubt, my favorite holiday of the year. Not only for the food, but for that warm fuzzy feeling that good friends, red wine, and pleather skirts give me. I have a full week of pie-baking ahead of me, and then Friday is SHOW TIME for Friendsgiving. We’ve invited about 30 people, and I am hoping that 20 or so make it here. Just like last year, Luis and I (mostly I) will make the large items, provide snacks and drinks, and cross our fingers that people show up with actual food to share (last year a lot of people only came with wine to our potluck Thanksgiving #truestory).
What I Am Making for Friendsgiving 2018
Turkey
This is the recipe we used last year and it was a big hit! This year, I might try making some stuffing to go inside.
Fall Wheatberry Salad
I love making this salad (anytime!), but it’s especially great for Thanksgiving because it adds some pretty color, can completely be made ahead so it doesn’t use the coveted oven, and lightens the meal a little.
Roasted Root Vegetables
Roasted root veggies are a quick and easy way to serve vegetable and while they do require the oven, it’s so easy to toss them in olive oil and spices, and let the oven do the work.
Mom’s Famous Sweet Potato Casserole
Someone else is also making a sweet potato casserole, but there’s nothing wrong with having two 🙂
Cheese Board
Everybody loves a good cheese board and I know that I have been looking forward to having an excuse to buy copious amounts of bleu cheese for 12 months! Add some nice crackers and spreads and you’re golden. I make mine without meat and no one ever complains!
Also…
- Pumpkin Pie
- Pumpkin Cheesecake
- Pretzels and hummus
- Olives
- Rolls and butter
- Alcohol
Writing this post has made me even more excited for next week!!!

That cheese board looks…. hammy mammy. I do very fondly remember the sound of that oven door crashing to the floor. I also broke a mirror when the anchors ripped out of the close door that I hung it on. Good times, great memories.
those are nice memories, very festive
