Hanan is one of the few Ethiopian restuarants in Madrid. They are conveniently located in Arguelles, super close to Plaza de España. They offer all of the traditional Ehtipian fare, and while it’s not cheap, it won’t break the bank either. If you’re looking for Ethiopian food in Madrid, Hanan is a place you should try.
Hanan- Ethiopian food in Madrid
- Address: Calle Ventura Rodriguez 3, 28008 Madrid, España
- Atmosphere: Relaxed, cozy, warm, authentic
- Type of food: Ethiopian, traditional, lots of things on the menu that you won’t recognize.
- What we ordered: We order the ‘Beef special? and the ‘Vegetarian special? (shown above) which allows you to try a little bit of everything for 15€ each and comes with enough injera (the spongy bread) to soak it all up.
- Other comments: The staff is friendly, but not over the top friendly/ helpful (we had to ask for the bill and then had to get up and find the woman to go pay. ANother table had to do the same to go place their order).
- I recommend going with the ‘specials’ if you try this place. If you don’t order the special, you will just get a big bowl/plate of whatever you order and I think the Ethiopian food experience is very much getting one of these huge things covered in food.
Rating: 8/10 for food (yummy food with lots of flavors/textures/colors), 6/10 for atmosphere (a little small, and we left smelling like food and I hate smelling like food), 6/10 for price/value (I thought it was over-priced).
Overall, I wouldn’t go back again. Not because I didn’t like the food or this place, but more because once I have Ethiopian food, then I’m pretty much good for the next 10 years.
