Friday Five: 5 Restaurants to Try in Madrid

Places to try in Madrid

One of the best things about Madrid is the (seemingly) unending list of new places to try for drinks, dinner, merienda (snack), and more, and as soon as you try a new place, you catch a glimpse of another new place that opens and there it goes- added to the list of ‘places to try in Madrid’.  Luis and I have a long list of places we want to check out, and we were actually talking the other day about how, despite loving a place, we rarely go to the same place twice because there are just so many great places!  Right now, I have about 15 places I want to try, but here are my top 5 places to try in Madrid.

5 Places to Try in Madrid

Sala de Despiece (Calle Ponzano)places to try in Madrid

Sala de Despiece is a place that continously gets talked about in my business class for the insane success that they have created for themselves.  Luis and I have tried to go twice, and there was a huge line BOTH TIMES.  People say it’s worth the wait, and with a line like that, it must be good.  I am thinking we need to give it a go on an ‘off night’.

El Caldero (Huertas)

Places to try in Madrid

El Caldero is always one of the best rated places for all things Spanish and rice and, well, I love rice and Spanish food, so I think I would love this place.

Ocafu (multiple locations)Places to try in Madrid

Ocafu was recommended to me by a (Spanish) friend and after looking at the pictures, I knew I wanted to go.  It’s your typical Spanish place, but a little bit more upscale and with flavors from Galicia.  They serve all of the traditional Spanish favorites, and their tortilla looks so good.

Juana La Loca (La Latina)

Places to try in Madrid

Juana La Loca is the one place on the list that I have been to, but just last week and it is totally worth the hype.  It’s a pinxos bar, but with much fancier and higher qulity pinxos than what you typically get.  The pinxos are also a little pricier, but for a light dinner, it’s a nice place.  It’s also a good place to pop in, have a couple cañas and a slice of tortilla, and call it a day.

La Casa del Abuelo (Centro)

Places to try in Madrid

La Casa Del Abuelo is your typical wine and tapas place in Madrid, but I have multiple people tell me that it is a great place.  I have a feeling that it’s a little touristy, but hey, I’m also a little touristy 🙂
