Last week, Luis and I went on our weekly Sunday run and instead of just running for an hour, we broke it up with a stop for beer. All runs should be that way, no?! We ran into Huertas and stopped at Alimentación Quiroga, on Calle Huertas 19, which is a place I’ve seen many times, but have never stopped into. If you love cheese and want to eat good cheese in Madrid, this is the place to go! It’a a great place to go with friends for a beer or a glass of wine that can be paid with a plate of salty, cured cheeses or Jamón, if that’s your thing. Luis and I stuck to two small beers and a small portion of extra blue cheese which we took home. They have a really great selection of meat and cheese in Madrid and I’m looking forward to going back to try more!
- Address: Calle de las Huertas, 19, 28014 Madrid, Spain
- Phone number: (+34) 910 292 863
- Atmosphere: Lively, casual, bright, hipster.
- Type of food: Casual and snacky. Cheese and meat plates to share, toasts, drinks.
- What you should order: A few drinks and a plate of their extra-cured cheeses and a couple toasts. It’s a little pricey, but not a bad way to try some great cheese.
- Other comments: it gets crowded, but people clear out relatively quickly. Wait for a table at the bar with a drink.
- Tip: Order a few small portions (100 grams) of whatever cheeses interest you and get them wrapped up to go. Take them to the part with a crusty baguette and a bottle of wine to share (or not)
Rating: 9.5/10 for food, 10/10 for atmosphere. Great spot for cheese in Madrid!
