HEY! Remember me?
I have been meaning to post for weeks, but every day that passes makes it harder to get back on here because there is so much I want to say but then so much turns into so, so much, which turns into so, so, so much…and so on. You get it. But! I had a reader request for me to write (hey Dad!) so here I am. Now that I am in lockdown, I can probably get on here more often, as in: every day, as in: I have a lot of free time, as in: we might all go crazy in the next 15 (or more???) days! But here we are, day 2 of our 100% lockdown and so far I am feeling mentally fine, just more worried about my business. If I were an auxiliar still, I would be all for this virus (that is a bad thing to say, I am aware), but who doesn’t like money and not working? I could do without the illness and death part though. As someone on the other side of this crisis (the financial crisis, not the health crisis), I am not enjoying this. We use an app to track our sales during the day and each night, I add the sales and expenses to an excel document to help keep track of things and see our profit and it’s been hard to see 0, 0 , 0 , 0…. I am not so worried about the 0 income, but I am worried about the expenses we have coming our way. The money will go out, while none is coming in. We can aguantar (hold on) for some time, but not forever….
Anyway, what shall we chat about? Things up until last week were great. Business is a lot smoother now…I sort of know what to expect with each day and have been learning how to roll with the punches. I wasn’t expecting such a huge punch to come so quickly but…here we are. We were finding a good rhythm (rhythm is a word I have to look up to see how to spell EVERY SINGLE TIME I write it) with bagel making, dough making, the schedule for our employees, not working 70 hour weeks (but still working 60 hour weeks, but hey, progress is progress). Luis and I went on a very luxurious ski vacation in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, which i will write about with all of my new free time (stay tuned!), and it was lovely. My favorite parts were all the parts that involved not skiing 🙂
So about this so-called lockdown… Right now, it just feels like a lot of time at home, but I have been very productive, especially since Luis is still going to work. He leaves for work and I usually clean up the house (I can’t focus when things are messy), then I start my day. I mean, it’s only day 2, I’m acting like this is my routine but can you call it a routine after day 2? Anyway, he leaves and I make breakfast: soy yogurt with oats (it’s expensive but I really like it and when the world is ending, #treatyoself), and I add chia seeds and fiber cereal because if the world is going to end, I should at least have a clean gut while going out. Then I sit down at the computer and tackle some of the things I have been meaning to do but haven’t done because that is what humans do… they intend to do things and do them eventually…or they don’t. Dad, do you think Teddy ever intends to do something and then doesn’t? Or saves it for later? Like “I intend to eat that wet dog bone I buried in Tamara’s bed…I will go later because right now this sunny spot next to the window is nice.”
Here is what I did today:
- uploaded all of the invoices for my accountant to organize for me to pay my taxes.
- added new cakes to our website
- created an events & catering page
- created a press page
- walked for 2 hours (I need fresh air and I stayed away from people)
- at the end of my walk, I went to the market and bought one onion…
- wrote this blog post
- bought stocks (the world is going to end but maybe eventually it will make us rich)
- transferred money to buy more stocks
And that’s it. It is 5:43 pm and I am going to finish this, call my accountant to figure things out and then I will make dinner. We had chicken in the freezer and some eggplant and zucchini and white rice, so I want to make a sesame-orange chicken dish of sorts. I might go for another walk too, just to get a little air and fill up my daily dose of dirty looks from people for being outside.
More tomorrow! (Maybe)
