Quarantine Chronicles.

That bagel up there is this week’s Bagel of the Week: the bagel you eat in insolation.

I was going to start writing about Crans-Montana and our epic ski vacation, but I have been working on the computer for the last 4 hours and now my brain feels too mushy to focus on that.  Luis and I have decided to open Mazál this weekend for a few hours each day and for delivery only, so I put it up on Instagram that we would be open and the response has been absolutely insane.  We are offering free delivery for orders over 10€ and there has been a huge influx of orders, which is great, but also means I have a lot of organizing to do!  I have been responding to orders, asking for phone numbers, payment info, and then organizing the delivery routes (I originally wrote delivery roots).  We hired a delivery guy we found on the internet to take everyone’s orders to their house, so I have organized 2 different routes for him, which might need to be divided into 3 or 4 depending on how many bagels he can carry at one time.  I plan to do a crazy amount of hand washing, wear gloves and give our delivery guy gloves to wear as well.  I DO NOT want to get anyone sick (and have no reason to believe I will), and I do believe that if we take extra precautions, we can get everyone their bagels safely.  Our plan for Saturday is to do the same, though I haven’t announced it.  I think I will also offer salmon bagels at a very reduced price because I am worried about our smoked salmon needing to be thrown in the trash in a couple weeks.  I prefer to sell it at a low price than to not sell it at all, so who knows, maybe people will be interested in Saturday quarantine brunch?  I’m really not worried at all about making money during this strange time, but I would like to generate enough income to pay rent and other fixed expenses we have.  We are such a baby business that we don’t have extra cash just hanging out…so..we will see what happens.  Once I finish up this post, I’ll hop in the shower and then get into another form of pajamas (leggings) and walk over to the shop to make dough for tomorrow.  It’s insane, people are saying that we should walk around with papers proving where we are going.  Absolutely insane, and if you aren’t living in that kind of environment, just wait…it’s coming.

This might look like healthy workers in a hazmat suit, but it’s just cleaning people for that building.

In other quarantine chronicle news, I have been cooking a little bit more than usual, but still not much.  We have had spicy chicken taco bowls for 3 nights this week and orange asian chicken for another night, and we will have that again tonight.  It’s so strange to be at home all day and not see or talk to anyone, but I also realized that this is sort of how I feel when I go back to the US…the cultures are just so different, but I suspect that when this hits the suburbs, people in the US won’t feel so different fromt their day-to-day.

Besides that, on the exercise front, long supermarket walks have been my saving grace, and yesterday I did a 45 minute Body Combat (by Les Mills) workout that I found on YouTube and I have not been this sore IN MONTHS.  My upper body feels completely shredded, but in a good way!  Looking forward to doing a few more workouts, but…not today.

Another one of my new hobbies has been cleaning and organizing the heck out of all those annoying places that I look at and think…I’ll organize that at some point in the future.  It’s been fun!  I tackle one small task per day and the satisfaction every time I open the cabinet/closet afterwards is priceless.  Maybe I’ll organize the kitchen before I go make bagels?!  Ohhhh fun times!
