All We Do Is Eat: Weekend Report

Bruja's Bakery Madrid

Hey, hey, hey!  Happy Tuesday!  Today is a good day because my good friend, Emily, is coming to visit from ROME!  She is staying for a couple days, and I’m excited for all the talking and walking and eating we are going to do!  Speaking of eating, as I went to write last weekend’s weekend in Madrid recap, I realized that basically, all we did was eat.  Ha!  Whatever.

Thursday

On Thursday, I met some friends at Sushita for sushi/poké bowls and chatting.  It was SO much fun!  I laughed so hard, and this poké bowl I had was awesome.  We had to wait quite a while for our table, but the time flew by.

I haven’t enjoyed myself that much in a long time, so it was a good night.

Friday

On Friday, I made a quick bagel delivery and then met my friend, Cristina, for drinks and chatting in Lavapies- my old ‘hood!Lavapies Lavapiés

We had coffee and tea and shared a yummy donut.  From there, I biked home to get a bit of work done (including taking some bagel photos for my Instagram) and then went for a walk.Bruja's Bakery Madrid

Luis was a trooper and worked mostly 12 hour days last week, including Friday, which was a bummer, but I am proud of him for how hard he works.  While I waited for him, I prepped the ingredients for us to make pizza!  It’s been a long, long time since we have made pizza, so we were excited.

So excited, in fact, that we tried to move the (very hot) pizza, ended up dropping it, and both getting burned!  Haha, oops.  We were both fine, and we scooped the toppings off the floor and ate it anyway.  #fivesecondrule.  Who wants to come for pizza?

Saturday

Saturday started with a tough workout after breakfast, and then Luis went home for lunch while I stayed home and worked for a bit.  I was actually able to accomplish a lot, so that was good.  And I had this yummy lunch – kale, corn, rice, butternut squash, olive oil and salt.

When Luis got home, I was already feverish with cabin fever and wanted OUT of the house, so we went out to dinner.weekend A Spoonful of TLC

Wait no.  Before dinner, I had to make a cake so Luis helped me.

When it was done, we went to La Gringa, which is part of the same group as Carmentcita Bar and oh my gosh, the food there (just like Carmencita), is SO GOOD!La Gringa MadridLa Gringa Madrid

The portions are huge for the price and the food is just delicious.  We split their burger with goat cheese and avocado, and their beef burrito.

We loved our burger and Luis especially loved the burrito.  Highly recommended!

Sunday

Sunday started like most Sundays around here, with a lazy breakfast and then a run and grub.  On Sundays, we usually run to “do research”, meaning we run and then go eat at various brunch joints around Madrid.  Neither of us were feeling like a big meal after eating so much the night before, so we ran to Lavapiés.  We were only going to pick up some spicy peppers from the frutería. but popped into Mercado San Fernando.  There was so much fun energy in there and just tons and tons of people eating and drinking, so…when in Rome…Mercado San Fernando

We had nachos and one of those spicy Mexican beers called a Michelada.  SO GOOD!  It was spicy and tangy and bubbly.  Normally I wouldn’t like something like that, but LOVED the drink (and the nachos too!  Look at all that guac!)

We also shared this vegetable tortilla which was…pretty terrible.

Upon taking a bite, I immediately said to Luis, this needs salt!  Luis asked for salt and the waiter/cook said he puts NO SALT in any of the food because then people complain.  Wait, what?Mercado Madrid

And lastly, a little something to make you chuckle:

That’s it for the weekend in Madrid!  Monday and Tuesday morning both started with beautiful sunrises and then busy, but productive days!  I will be back later this week with more.sunrise Madrid
