Hi! Just catching up? Here is part I.
We took a early afternoon bus from Bilbao to San Sebastian on Sunday morning (tip: buy tickets ahead of time because they sell out and then you either need to purchase tickets with the more expensive company or you need to book a “deluxe” bus). The bus only takes an hour, so within no time, we were there!
Check out my mom’s Halloween spirit!!!
We dropped off our bags and headed right back out the door to walk along the beautiful promenade and then find some lunch.
Here’s a tip: Head out of the old town when looking for places to eat (except for pinxos! Stay in the center for pinxos!). We headed to Calle de Los Reyes Catolicos, but a better idea is to eat at La Perla on the water. The food is relatively inexpensive and it’s decent. We ate at an inexpensive place that was less than decent, but you live and learn.
Despues, we walked to the funicular (cable car) to go allll the way up the mountain and take in the incredible views. The views were pretty incredible on the way there, too.
And yes, we were in winter clothes, but there were plenty of people out and about on the beach in their bikinis and banana hammocks.
We rode up, up, up the funicular.
And were greeted by these amazing views.
Look! Even this dog was smiling.
And then we took a thousand photos and eventually, my dad and I rode the roller coaster!
Yes, there is a roller coaster up there and it’s so scary!!! There are no seatbelts or bars and while it’s not a totally wild ride, it’s not all that calm either. We screamed.
After the funicular, we headed back down the mountain, walked back to the hostel and then went back out for some delicious pintxos.
They’re incredibly beautiful (and tasty!). I was so full after all that eating, but how can you not?
Day 2 in San Sebastian
On the last day, we took advantage of those amazing ocean views and had some breakfast on the water (pan y cafe con leche).
And after breakfast, we only had a couple hours to kill before my long train home, so we headed for a long walk along the water. There is a great promenade that runs all the way down the coast in San Sebastian, so if you find yourself there with beautiful weather, take advantage!!
