Hangin’ with Meaghan

Meghan in Madrid

In the 4.5 years that I have lived in Spain, I have had a lot of friends that come and go, but one of my very best friends is Meaghan- a girl that randomly invited me to her Thanksgiving dinner (without ever having met her… is that grammatically correct?) because she wanted to order pumpkin pies from me (3 years ago!).  If that doesn’t tell you the type of person that Meaghan is, then I don’t know what will, but suffice it to say that she is probably the nicest person I have ever met in my life.  We were good friends while she was here, but last year she decided it was time to return to the US.  I was sad to lose her from Madrid, but happy she was following her path.  Since she left, I had seen her once in California, while we were there last summer on our road trip, and then last month she told me she would be visiting Madrid for 3 days!  I was super excited to say the least.  Meaghan had a lot of plans while she’s here, but we were able to spend a super fun afternoon together, which made me miss her even more!Meghan in Madrid

Come back, Meaghan!

The nice thing (ok, there are many nice things) about working for myself is that I can take ‘off’ from work when necessary, so after jamming in some work in the morning, I have the afternoon clear to spend with Meaghan!  I wasn’t sure what we would do together, but she suggested we go boating together in Retiro and since I had never done it, I was totally down!   Usually I think the boats look like a silly tourist attraction (and I was worried about getting seasick), but I LOVED it!Meghan in Madrid

I thought it was so much fun and now I am excited to take other people out on the boats.  Of course, a beautiful, breezy, sunny, 70* day made it perfect.  Mom, Dad – we are totally doing this when you come to Madrid and don’t worry, we won’t get the ‘broken’ boat like that one time on vacation!Meghan in Madrid Meghan in Madrid

After boating for about an hour, Meghan and I went to El Perro and La Galleta to meet Luis for lunch.  That was the place where Meghan and I had our last lunch before she returned to California, so it was great to go back.  It was Luis’ first time, and with 3 hungry people, we were able to try lots of different things.

Everything is really yummy and if you order the ‘tapa’ plates, the prices aren’t crazy! The plates look small in the photos, but I was full for HOURS- this was the first day in the entire year that I didn’t eat my half of bagel at school.  That’s how full I was! Also, I LOVE the huge windows and sunshine in there.

From there, we had to say our goodbyes because I had to head to class, but like I said, it was so great to see Meaghan and really made me miss having a super close friend here.  I can’t wait to see you again, Meaghan!  <3
