Hiking and Movies and Swimming – Weekend

what to do in Madrid in August
I am currently writing this post while waiting in a huge line at the bank and there are only two people working. I opened this account 3 years ago, and have never had problems, but recently they closed ALL branches except for one so there is constantly a line and a lot of angry spaniards.  Who thought of this?!weekend A Spoonful of TLC

I guess this is just a typical Monday, but that doesn’t mean that this weekend wasn’t great because it was! I don’t remember having a better weekend in the last few months!

Friday

Friday was a relaxing day- Work, chores at home, etc. Friday night, luis and I tried to do something fun, but went out to find Madrid absolutely empty. It was strange to see all of the restaurant grates pulled down and no one in the street! We did stop for a glass of wine at Estay, a pinxos bar we discovered a few days earlier.weekend A Spoonful of TLC

I loved the place but we were definitely the youngest ones there in Friday

Here’s a picture of me looking boozy earlier in the week…

Saturday

Saturday was way too good… now I have high expectations for the rest of my life.  Sometime last week, I saw an add for an all day hike in Lozoya Valley with a Meetup.com group called Hike and Swim.  We packed some sandwiches (6 sandwiches to be exact……)

It was advertised as a 20 km hike (lol) but only ended up being 13 km (thank goodness).https://www.spain.info/en/reportajes/senderismo-en-el-valle-del-lozoya.html weekend A Spoonful TLC

I was afraid it was going to be incredibly hot but it ended up being a welcome break from the heat of Madrid and it was so much fun. The natural pools on Lozoya Valley are beautiful, but also very cold. Everyone else had the ganas to jump in the water but I was fine to just put my hands in.https://www.spain.info/en/reportajes/senderismo-en-el-valle-del-lozoya.html
The hike was labeled as medium hard, but there were definitely parts of the hike where I was siding down the hill on my bum haha.  Also, we shot some modeling pics with bagels, so it was a productive day.

After ~7 hours of hiking and swimming, we had a quick beer before heading back to Madrid. On our way home, we stopped at the Conde Duque entertainment space (super cool, if you’ve never been!) and purchased tickets for the outdoor movie they had all night. In case you are in Madrid, Conde Duque is playing outdoor movies almost every night until late September.weekend A Spoonful of TLC

On Saturday, they played The Greatest Showman and oh my gosh, I LOVED IT! I had heard good things, but I’m not really a high school musical kind of person. Either way, we thought it would be fun to go and I’m so glad we did because I was ready to jump out of my seat and dance to the music. Watch the movie if you haven’t seen it!!  Here is a trailer.

We ended the night with a couple drinks (and somehow got home around 2 am)

Sunday

I needed to recuperate after the activities of the day before, so after sleeping in and smoothies, we headed for the pool.weekend A Spoonful of TLC

Luis’ family belongs to beautiful pool near his house, so we spent a couple hours there, then had lunch, and then a couple more hours.  Sunday night ended with food shopping, bagel making, and trip planning.
