Running Weekend.

Hello, hello!  I’m finally getting on here to recap the weekend on Tuesday!  Time moves too quickly and both yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday) have been flying be without much of a breather in sight.  I might be retired (lol) but I am still quite busy with my retiree activities.  Luckily, the weekend was super good and it was relaxing enough, so despite it being a hectic week, I don’t feel overwhelmed.  With that wordy intro, let’s get into a recap, shall we?!

FRIDAY

Friday was so good because on Thursday, Luis told me he would be getting out of work at 3:00 the following day!  Like a normal person on Friday!!  It was so nice because I finish work at 2:30, so I packed up my teaching supplies and then met Luis at the bus near his office and we went to lunch together (Spain style, at 4:00 pm).bom17

Yeah!  With glasses!  Can’t see without them!  (but really I can lol)

Who wore it better?

bom18

We went to one of my favorite places, and while the food is always really good, I wasn’t loving it as much as I usually do.  Sad.

After lunch, we went to pick up race packets for the Madrid Bombero race, which I’ve done for the last TWO years.  bom16

Oh gosh, times flies!  (recap 1 and apparently I didn’t write a recap on the second).

Friday night was relatively chill for awhile, and then Luis and I went to a local bar and drank a lot of beer and we are officially old people because we were both feeling rougher than one should have such a low amount…bom14

SATURDAY

Needless to say, Saturday started slowly.  First, breakfast on the terrace interspersed with doing some birthday baking for one of my customers (at Bruja’s Bakery).bom1

After breakfast, Luis spent the afternoon with his family and I did some stuff at home.  Saturday was one of those weird days where I just felt off…and a little homesick, to be honest.  It was rainy and cold and you know how it goes.bom2

I mean, LOOK at that face!!!

Luckily, the feeling passed and I don’t miss my family anymore.  Lol just kidding.  But the feeling did pass because I had a tour that night with a little family.  It was a mom and dad and their adorable 2.5 year old child who held my hand for much of the tour.

After the tour, Luis met me near my apartment and we had dinner (drinks and pinxos) at a new-to-us bar which is part of a new tour I’m doing!!bom3

It was really yummy and was one of those “this is Spain” places. bom4

We called it a night pretty early because I still had some bagel baking to do!  Luis and I were hosting brunch after the race the next morning…

SUNDAY

Which brings me to Sunday!  A few weeks ago, I told my roommates that Luis and I were going to run the Madrid Bombero 10k and they were all interested in doing it too.bom7bom8

And then brunch just got added on there because the finish line was near Luis’ apartment and why wouldn’t we have brunch after?!

It had been raining the ENTIRE week before, so we were extremely happy to see dry skies and only a wet pavement.bom9bom11

The race itself was great!  I love the energy people bring to races and the general support and encouragement that runners have for fellow runners.  I mean, it didn’t really hold a candle (sorry) to the type of energy at races in the US, but it was still good 🙂  I finished with a time I’m happy with (around 55 minutes), considering I hadn’t trained!  Luis finished pretty close behind me and only told me he hated me ONCE (haha) so it was a win-win.bom12

We headed back to his apartment and prepped for brunch, and a short while later, everyone else arrived.

We had a really nice spread of post-race foods!bom13

Bagels with lox, an egg-bake, a pumpkin bread, a lemon-poppyseed bread, fruit salad, and mimosas.  We chatted for awhile and then everyone went home to shower and get on with their Sundays.  Luis and I Sundayed hard and didn’t leave his apartment for the rest of the day…until we went to Ikea to buy ziplock bags.  What a anticlimatic end to the weekend….

But a great weekend, nonetheless!  Here’s to a great week!
