Last April Weekend

Hello from the other side of the weekend!  (How and why?  I may never understand the speed at which the weekend moves.  It’s unbelievable.)  Also, how is it ALREADY May (well, soon)?  When did this happen?!  Anyways, I had a really good weekend so I wanted to share some of it with ya’ll and hope you’ll share yours as well.

On Friday, I was in a bit of a weird funk/ panic since I realized that I might have to leave the country sooner than expected?  I am still figuring it out, but I have faith it will all work out!  Despite the funk, Friday was a good day.  Bagels in the morning for a new client (yay)

And then Luis and I met up later in the afternoon for some drinks and then pizza at NAP Pizza, which is right by my apartment and it was delicious.  A new favorite, for sure.  We sat right at the bar and watched as they made our pizzas right in front of us.  The pizza guys were Italian, so it was the real deal!  It was also at the bar that we realized the mushroom pizza we ordered had pork on it, so I ate the edges and Luis enjoyed the pizza with most of the pork pulled off. Womp womp…  We will have to go back for a mushroom pizza, sans pork.apri7

The rest of Friday was pretty low-key, while Saturday started my absolute favorite way- with breakfast and then a workout.  For breakfast, I had a piece of challah (from the freezer) with peanut butter and jam, while Luis had an entire stack of bread.  We split a perfectly juicy mango.apri9

I have found that bread before a workout is much easier on my stomach than a bowl of cereal with milk.  My stomach does all kinds of weird things with sloshing milk… yuck.

For our workout, we went to a workout class that I had gone to a few weeks back that was INSANELY intense.  The workout was a bunch of interval sets focused on various muscle groups.  It was intensely painful, but in the best way.  Unfortunately, Saturday’s class had a different teacher who seemed…confused.  The workout was entirely too easy and left me with the desire to go for a run after the class.  Well, ya win some and ya lose some!apri10

As soon as we got back to the apartment, we had to shower and get dressed because we had lunch plans with Luis’ family for his brother’s birthday!  We went to El Brasero Don Pedro, a restaurant owned by their neighbor.  We were seated in the beautiful outdoor area, that was full of light (and also heat at certain points).apri4

A few appetizers were ordered to share, but since they know the owner, we were also sent this FRIED cheese. apri6 Yes!  Fried! and yes! so good!  It was served with fruit jam to put on top.  I would have eaten the entire plate had we not had a ton of food coming our way.  Everything from grilled artichokes to “pan de cristal” to buttery fish and seared steaks.apri3  I was full for 3 days after this (almost).

Saturday night, I had a tour with a group of 8 Swedish people and it was SO MUCH FUN!  I love, love, love doing these tours since I get to meet so many nice people.  After the tour, Luis and I grabbed a couple of tapas to share and then called it a night.

Sunday started much the same way as Saturday, with a light breakfast and then time at the gym.  We went to a spinning class together and left completely drenched in sweat. No better way to start the day, right?

After the gym, we had lunch, which was a mismatch of everything left in the fridge.  What did that end up being?  Chicken and rice, leftover tortilla, and some chopped tomatoes with olive oil and oregano.apri2

The rest of the day was spent doing chores: organizing the closet, cleaning the fish tank, filling out paperwork, and then finally, around 7 pm, I sat down to paint.  Love this new hobby!apri8

That’s it!  Here we are, back to Monday, but it feels like Friday since tomorrow is a holiday here in Madrid, which makes today like a Friday.  Can’t ask for more!
