Snippets From Last Week and This Weekend

Wow, what a week / 10 days it has been!  A lot of fun, a ton of work, lots of time in class, and making bagels for Bruja’s Bakery, and a few new opportunities.  So many good things, and so little time to blog about it.  I often have ideas for posts floating around in my head, but as far as they get from my brain is to a list labeled ‘blog ideas’ and usually, it seems, not much further than that.  Anyway, this will be a dump-style post, with little tidbits of last week and some of the fun things we did this weekend.  As I write this, I am sitting at the kitchen counter, slowly sipping some espresso (Cuban, to be exact.  Thanks Mom!), after a 2 hour nap that began at 9 am since I got up at the unheard of hour of 4.45 am to make a billion bagels.  The nap was perfect though, because now I feel like I still have time to have the kind of Sunday I like (exercise, market visits, clean the house, eat yummy food and drink yummy drinks, water the plants, and get sh!t done).  We have all day 🙂

Lunch at Olivia Te Cuida

A couple weeks back, Luis and I had lunch at Olivia Te Cuida(Fortuny) which is literally across the street from Luis’ office.  We had heard amazing things about it and it did not disappoint- it’s exactly the type of food I enjoy eating – veggie heavy, fresh, flavorful, and the place was bright, clean, and neautral. olivia te cuida

It was a little pricey, but I am glad we tried it.  I want to try brunch one of these days, but it’s one of those places that you can’t run there and show up all sweaty and then sit down for brunch and that’s more my style of eating so…. we will have to find another day.  Another brunch place I really want to try is Panelo & Co., but they don’t have brunch on Sunday?!  And Saturdays are hard to organize, so we will see when that happens.

Other Meals Out

Also last weekend, we had dinner on Saturday night at an Italian restaurant right off of Calle Ponzano.  It was good, albeit pricey and dare I say, I make a better pizza (even if we did drop our pizza on the ground and still eat it lolololol).  The night was fun, though, with Luis’ university friends.

I also tried Goiko Grill because some friends want to try it.  I consider myself to be a foodie in that I like trying good food, I like trying new food, I like trying fun food, and I like to try new places.  Goiko Grill met some of that criteria, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t put off by the fact that it is a chain.  My friends were gung ho though, so I went with it.goiko grill burger

I will say that I enjoyed it, but if I am going to pay 12.50€ for a burger (that yes, was good), I rather go other places with amazing burgers, like Amargo, Carmencita Bar, or La Gringa.  The night was VERY fun though- love this group!

Luis and I also went back to Juana La Loca last weekend to try some more pinxos.  Their pinxos are definitely pricey (around 6€ each), but they are SO GOOD!  Mom, Dad, if you come visit, Lee and I will take you there, your treat 😉

Drinks with Luis

This weekend, I had to make 160 bagels over 2 days, which really isn’t a lot for any real bakery, but when you are dealing with a mixer that can handle 6 bagels at one time and an oven that can hold 12, 160 is a nightmare!

But not a nightmare I was afraid to take on.  Anyway, with that being said, I had to be up both Saturday and Sunday by 5 am, so we stayed close to home on Friday and Saturday.  Determined to get out on Saturday, we went to 3 different ‘Spanish bars’ near our house and they just reminded me how much I LOVE SPANISH BARS!tapas bar madrid

We paid about 1.50€ per beer and got this big tapa!  Fried chicken and french fries and ok, was it gourmet- no.  Was it good- yeah!!!!  We went to a couple other places too.tapas bar madrid

Oh, also Luis got to see Bite Me and we had a donut!  Like I said, I’m not a donut person but I AM  a Bite Me donut person.  Delicious!

Seeing An Available Space

I haven’t mentioned it much, but I plan to in my ‘Living in Bruja’s Bakery’ blog series, but I have started toying with the idea of moving Bruja’s Bakery to a real space, with a big kitchen and the equipment I need to produce as much as I can.  On Friday, we saw our first space which ultimately won’t work, but it was a step in the right direction.

With that, I think you are caught up on the boring intricacies of my life!  I plan to be back later this week of another Living In Bruja’s Bakery post, and maybe another chatty post.  Is there anything you would like me to write about?  Leave a comment!  I am finishing this post at 11:30 am on Monday morning, so after I publish it, I am going to clean the fish tank, take a shower, make some bagel dough, go for a walk (10,000 steps baby), and plan Instagram posts for the week before heading to class.  See you soon!
