The Great Relaxer Hunt: RESULTS!

**If you don’t want to see a bunch of selfies of me, then exit this post now (Ollin…) and I will see you tomorrow, maybe..maybe not.**

A few weeks ago, I went on The Great Relaxer Hunt here in Madrid.  After two impossibly long weeks of waiting, I FINALLY had my hair done at Corte Cabeza-Huertas.  Overall, the experience was enjoyable, the staff was so friendly, and I will be going back!IMG_1028

Location: C/ Prado 12, Huertas 28014, Madrid

Telefono: 915-446-087

Price: 120 Euro + 10 Euro tip (tip is not customary, nor is it expected, but I was (and am) very happy with the results and the hairdresser was so kind, so I left something.  I am aware that it’s not much, but I am also not made of money…so…)

Price of my hair per day:  33.3 cents/ day for one year.  Haha not a bad investment!

Before:IMG_1005

Step 1: Wash, dry, and comb the nest.IMG_1008 IMG_1009

Step 2: Apply the relaxer. (This was the SAME product they use in my salon at home, but that one is over 2x the price.  I know that nose-burning smell anywhere!).

Leave product on for about 15-30 minutes.IMG_1010

Step 3: Rinse the relaxer with a special product.IMG_1013

Step 4: Dry the hair and flat iron.IMG_1015 IMG_1016

Step 5: Apply a product “to lock in the relaxer”.  I taught my hairdresser that phrase and she kept using it hahaha.IMG_1019

Step 6: Wash out said “lock-inducer”.  Then re-dry and re-straighten.  And take picture with your hairdresser who has become a good friend over the last 4 hours.  She is from the North of Spain and is a part-owner of this salon.  IMG_1039

Step 7: LOVE your hair.IMG_1026

Step 8:  Drink your coffee outside because the cafeteria smells like fried meat sticks and your hair will absorb this putrid smell.IMG_1037

Overall, the process was almost exactly the same as what they do at home.  Except after the relaxer was applied, she starting drying my hair and I asked if she was going to wash it out.  She told me she straightens it first and then washes it out, but then she checked the bottle and realized I was right…so…

Also, after rinsing out the relaxer, she straightened it and then washed it again and applied the “lock” and then straightened it again.  I don’t think she had to do that first straightening, but whatever.  I am happy.

Ok!  That’s it.  I hope you enjoyed all of those pictures of me haaaaha.  I’m off to teach private lessons for two hours and then I am going dancing! 🙂

Have a great night.
