Morning, Ya’ll!
Err…..Afternoon. Yes, yes…I did it AGAIN. I slept over 12 hours. On the bright side, I went to bed around 10:30 and woke up at 10:40, so it wasn’t too late. Should I be concerned?
Anyways, I am enjoying a leisurely breakfast watching the rain trickle down and turn to slippery, accident-causing ice. That sentence went from nice—> not nice, huh? Anyway, I wanted to do a Fitness Friday post because I want to keep myself accountable and I like to think that somewhere out there, some of you enjoy reading it and/or finds some inspiration.
But instead, I want to share MY NEW ROOM! If you remember, I made a to-do list for this break and the number 1 thing was to re-do my room. Check, check andddd CHECK. Wow, my life is…pathetic.
A few weeks back, on Cyber Monday to be exact, I fell in love with a Duvet on the Urban Outfitters website. I sent the link to Russ and he ended up getting it for me for Hannukah (in addition to a dress I wanted) and I was (and am) absolutely in loooooove with the design. I knew that my walls needing to make it “pop“.
First I picked light yellow, but then I talked myself out of it and wanted to go with a [light] reddish-pink. I didn’t want a color that was shocking. I was going for calming. Anyways, I tried two different reddish-pinks and they were very, very SHOCKING. Nexxxtttt…[remember that show on MTV?]
Then I decided yellow would be better. The yellow sample was called Sun Porch [or something] and it was very nice and calm on the paint chip, but more along the lines of in-your-face-bright-mustard-yellow when it went on the wall. NO. So back to Home Depot we went (for the fifth time in 3 days). I was getting frustrated and impatient. I ended up picking another sample of a yellow that looked ENTIRELY too light on the card and looked like something you would see in a baby nursery. It’s called Whisper Yellow.
It was perfect.
My previously light blue walls needed to be coated many, many times. I first roughly painted them white, then 3-4 coats of yellow. The blue just wouldn’t QUIT! I think I was also getting a little loopy from breathing in paint fumes and I was just seeing blue that wasn’t there.
One gallon.
+ One quart.
Four days.
Four helping hands.
Spackling, sanding, ceiling painting.
Floor scrubbing and sweeping.
More work than I ever imagined.
But thanks to a lot of hard word, A LOT of help from my dad, and Jim Gaffigan Pandora, we finished! My mom had a ton of artwork stored in the basement-much of it from her travels around the world-so I used that as my decorations.
On the left- From China, on the right- a painting done by an old friend of my dad’s. It’s a ship.
From Bali.
From Japan. Actually, the piece of artwork on top is from Cuba, but the writing is Japanese.
From Cuba.
From Russy. 🙂
I don’t think these photos do the room much justice in terms of color and the “calming” feeling, but I tried. I LOVE my new room and wake up every morning feeling relaxed and rested. (…That could also be due to the fact that I sleep 12-13 hours). It looks so clean and fresh, and couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out.
That dog cage will be moving into Leland’s room now that he left for COLLEGE!
That’s all folks. I’m off to clean up the kitchen, work on these applications that I’ve been avoiding, annnnddddd go to the gym.
Have a wonderful weekend!
p.s. If you’re curious- that big lump wit a white blanket over it is a chair that my parents have some emotional attachment to so it lives in my room and they pay me rent to keep it there. Just kidding. 😉
