Weekend. And 7 Things You SHOULD Purchase and 6 Things You SHOULD NOT Purchase at Primark.

Buenas noches!

How was your weekend?  My weekend was so good.  Too good, which is why it was over so quickly and now it’s Monday.  What?  But Monday is over, so I’m happy about that too.  I don’t have much to share so I thought I would throw my measly weekend pics into this stupid post I wrote for you.

Thursday, I only worked one hour so I had the whole day, basically!  I walked, then ran 5 miles.  I cooked and cleaned AND napped…for 3 hours.  Then I had drinks with friend(s)!!

Friday, I slept in late, wrote all of my Paris posts (here, here, and here) and then went with Kristen and Annie for expensive beers in Plaza Mayor.IMG_3038We walked a bit and picked up snacks…

IMG_3039 And eventually went to Casa de Campo for more time in the sun and finished off our afternoon watching the sunset in Templo de Debod.  My phone died so there are no pics, but it was a nice afternoon.

Saturday I woke up bright and early for a run!IMG_3042

Haven’t done that in months!  But it felt good to get out and move since I wasn’t sure what the rest of the day would bring.  I ended up running about 3 miles plus minute long sprints up a hill (5 in total).

After showering, eating, and writing some of this post, I went with my two roommates to the Pal Mundo Music Festival and saw Farruko, Prince Royce, and Don Omar (and 3 other people, don’t remember them).  The show was INCREDIBLE.  I fell in love with Prince Royce (along with every other girl in the stadium).  It was such a fun day!  But a long one that had me struggling to keep my eyes open…but still ended on a good note 🙂

Sunday- woke up suuuuuper late, met Annie and Kristen to plan a beach trip next month and then ran errands with Annie, one of which was to PRIMARK!  Then went to Decathlon and out to dinner.

And I got a new shirt 😉IMG_3074

Ohhhhh Primark. IMG_1185-001

You created quite the gossip storm when you found your way to Gran Via in Madrid! When Primark opened, there were lines OUT THE DOOR AND AROUND THE CORNER.  And the amount of security they have there?  If I didn’t know better, I would think they were protecting diamonds.IMG_3064

“Have you heard?!  Have you been?!  Primark is amazing!  They have EVERYTHING!  It’s so cheap!”

And cheap it is.  So cheap.  Too cheap.

For some things, Primark is great.  The prices are actually ridiculously low, which obviously means that the quality is down there with the prices.  I have bought a number of things there and some have served me well and some have literally fallen apart in my hands.

Things You SHOULD Buy

1 // Loose-fitting T-Shirts.  Only 2.30 Euro each, relatively lightweight and soft, and come in a number of colors!!  They are made of polyester (haven’t checked, but I’m gonna go with a definite yes on that one) so not the highest of quality, but for a t-shirt with a nice fit that can be worn to relax or dressed up a little with a cardigan and boots, these are great.

2 // Pajamas.  Primark has so many pajamas.  Shorts, pants, tanks, long sleeve, pajama sets, and more!  And they’re cheap (obviously) and soft.  If you’re one of those 100% cotton pajama snobs (hi, mom) then don’t buy them here.  But if you just like soft pajamas, these are great.

3 // Face wipes.  They can be found in the “beauty area” or in the various check-out lines.  The 2-for-1 packs are huge and are under 2 Euro.

4 // Casual, solid dresses.IMG_3063

I am not recommending you go to Primark for all of your dress needs, because they use the worst material (a.k.a completely unbreathable a.k.a HOT in the summer), but for loose fitting t-shirt type dresses, they’re great.  I found a black tank-top stretch dress for 4 Euro.  Pair it with a flannel or chambray and it’s perfect in the spring. (And since writing this post, I have since gone back and purchased 2 more…one in burnt orange and one in navy blue.  Help)

5 //  Mascara.  Only 1.50 Euro for the tube and it’s big!  and waterproof!  and makes my puny eyelashes look mildly long!  This mascara does the trick, lasts a long time, but comes off relatively easily in the shower without smudging all over your face.  So good for the summer and the pool and the ocean.  But beware:  The first tube I bought broke in half after about a week.  That, however, did not stop me from purchasing another 😉

6 // Going out tanks and shirts.  I found 5 Euro cute t-shirts and bought two!  One in black for going out and one in a salmon-pink color to pair with jeans and sandals in the summer.  They’re light, look nice, and can probably never endure a washing machine, but that’s ok!!

7 // Bed sheets.  They actually sell bed sheets that are 100% cotton for all you cotton snobs!

Things You SHOULD NOT Buy

1 // Sweaters.  They’re tempting, ohhhhh they’re tempting.  They feel soft in the store.  They look like their brothers and sisters being sold at H&M and Pull and Bear for higher prices!  But they stretch and pill and look ragged after just a couple wears and one wash.  And omg they feel soft and light, but try running in those things with a coat on and I promise, you will feel like you are being SUFFOCATED.  When people say “polyester is not breathable”….trust them.

2 // Shoes.  Okay, this can go two ways.  If you need a cheap pair of boots to go traipsing through the rain or the mud or to frat parties or the bars or the clubs, then great.  These are good shoes to use and throw away sooner rather than later without any real tears being shed.  But if you want a quality pair of shoes for walking, or comfort, or long-term use, I wouldn’t go to Primark.  But….they’re shoes are cute.  And they have fake Berkenstocks for 6 Euro.  So you decide.

3 // Nice dresses.  They LOOK nice.  But feel those bad boys.  They feel like something that should insulate a house, which is probably what they’ll be doing to your body all summer long while you wish you were anywhere else, but trapped in this heat box from Primark.

4 // Scarves.  Too hot.  Too itchy.  Not worth the low price, I promise.

5 // Anything that is made of those polyester blends, especially nicer shirts.  They look nice in the store and then in public, it becomes obvious that “she is wearing Primark”.  The trick to Primark is making sure no one knows you’re wearing Primark.

6 // Jeans.  Jegging- jeans are ok, but if you want regular jeans, then go somewhere else.  The prices are very comparable to other stores such as Pull and Bear, Zara, or H&M, so I think you should go there for better quality.  If you want jeggings, Primark is ok.
