A Day in the Life: March 2019

a day in the life

Hi there, friends!  I am back with another edition of A Day in the Life, which gives you a little glimpse into what one of my day’s looks like in a week.  The last time I did a day in the life post, it was December, so it was cold and dreary, I was doing a little bit less of Bruja’s Bakery, and probably working on Vipkid a bit more.

A Day in the Life: Monday

7.10.  Alarm goes off and I snooze until 8 am.  I do this every single morning when it would just be better to set the alarm for like, 7.50, and get a good extra hour instead of being woken every 9 minutes, but…. I wont change it.

8.00.  bathroom, chug a glass of water, go to the kitchen

8.15-9.30. while Luis eats breakfast and gets ready for work, I start working on bagel dough.  Bruja’s Bakery has been doing very well, so I have to make dough most days of the week, if not all.  Some days I make 1 batch, and other days I have to make 6 or 8 batches.  On Monday, I made 4.  Luis eats breakfast and leaves at 8.40 am, rushing around because he is “late”, but… he leaves at this time every single day! Haha.  I also start to pre-heat the oven and boil a pot of water for 6 bagels I have to make.a day in the life

9.00.  While dough is in the mixer, I make myself breakfast.  Right now I am in a cereal/milk/yogurt/strawberries phase.  I let it sit on the counter for about 20 minutes before eating it so it gets nice and soggy lol whats wrong with me?

a day in the life

9.45 or 10 ish. Finish making dough!  I quickly boil the bagels, put the seeds on them and bake for 16 mins.  While they cool, I am able to get things done.  Also, in between the dough making, I cleaned up the apartment a little… I always put away shoes and jackets, make the bed, etc.  A clean space helps me feel focused and organized!  I can’t really do anything until the space around me is clean.  Some would call me organized, others would call me type A AF!!

10 am. Get dressed and head out to go run fun errands- visiting the social security office to ask why they haven’t charged me yet.  The lady laughed when I told her why I was there, like I am probably the first person in the entire history of Spain to ever go to the office for that reason.  Once that was sorted, I went to the local market to buy produce!  I have been trying to use less plastic and a big part of that effort is buying fresh, local things without bags in the local market.  Also, it supports smaller vendors and the people are so nice!  They let me try all different types of peas and kept telling me they taste like candy… not quite but almost 😉  I bought: strawberries (wrapped in paper), a head of broccoli, a zucchini, a slice of squash, 5 carrots, some parsley, and 1 cucumber.  The only plastic I had was the slice of squash was put in a plastic bag, but next week I will use it again!

11.30 am.  Back from my errands!  I put away the groceries and also roast some of the vegetables.

Love the vibrant colors!  Oh, I also INHALE half of a bagel (from the freezer) because by 11 I am starving,  I eat the other half in class.

a day in the life

12.00-4.00 pm.  Work on the computer-  I work on my final project for school, which for today means costing out all of my recipes in terms of ingredients and time.  I also finish up my Paris blog post, edit some pictures, and clean out my email inbox.  Like being in a messy house, I also hate having a messy inbox so I try to keep it as close to 0 as possible, but I will settle for any number under 30.

**3.45 pm.  Someone comes to buy bagels.  I had made the dough the night before.

2 ish pm.  Stop for lunch- some gnocchi I had in the fridge with those delicious roasted veggies, cabbage from the week before, olive oil, and a lot of salt.a day in the life

4.15 pm.  Meet my friend Ana for our daily walk to school.  Oh, I got a new coat and LOVE IT!  Here it is.

a day in the life

5-8 pm.  Class- today and the whole week is the legal part of class.  We are learning about sociedades limitadas vs autonomo and taxes and all that fun stuff.

8-8.40 pm. Walk home with Ana, and once she splits off, call my Mom and talk for 30 mins.

9.15 pm.  Make dinner.  99% of the time, Luis and I eat vegetarian (and fish) at home, but we had beef in the freezer that his Mom gave us, so I cooked some filets that we used in rice bowls with brown rice, roasted sweet potato and purple cabbage, diced tomatoes, corn, avocado, jalapeños and chips.  DEEEELICIOUS. (This is not what it looked like, but similar!)a day in the life

9.45-11.30.  Luis is watching The Walking Dead and I can’t handle that show, so I read for a few minutes and pass out around 11.30.

The end.
