First Weekend Back in Madrid

Madrid weekend

Wow, it has been 2.5 months since I have spent a weekend in Madrid….2.5 MONTHS!  That is almost a quarter of a year!  With so much traveling, I have been in and out of Madrid all summer and for the last few weeks, so this was the first weekend where I was in Madrid and to be honest, it felt good!  I was actually so happy to be here that I hardly left the house!  It rained all weekend, which definitely helped me stay put and here we are, Monday morning and I am feeling rejuvinated!

FRIDAY

Let’s see…Friday was a day at home with lots of bagel work, but also lots of time (hence the TWO blog posts in one day).  In the late afternoon (7:30 pm…I am Spanish now…7:30 pm is the afternoon), I had a Wine & Tapas tour with a super fun group of girls from Ireland!  They were hilarious and I think we all had fun.  When I got home, Luis and I watched Big Bang Theory with a huge bowl of popcorn and I was struggling to stay awake after midnight #party

SATURDAY

I had to be up by 8:30 am on Saturday because I had 3 people coming for bagels at noon.  I made: 10 minis, 6 honey and apple, 15 plain bagels, 3 everything bagels, and 6 poppy bagels.  I actually really enjoy Saturday morning baking because it’s quiet, I don’t have to prepare any dough for the next day (I take Sunday off), and I have the whole day to look forward to!

Around 11:30, Luis and I had a quick challah french toast breakfast with my brand spankin’ new maple syrup from Canada (super good) and I loved every single bite.Madrid weekend

We kept getting interrupted for bagel pick-ups, but that’s ok!  The 3 customers that came on Saturday were all SO NICE and I really enjoyed chatting with them.  After the drop offs were done, I went for a run…in the rain, but I knew that being home all day without some exercise would have driven me insane.

In the afternoon, Luis had lunch with his family and I went to the grocery store.  I tried to go to the market, but they close so early on Saturday so the grocery store it was!  I still made a big effort to use NO plastic and it worked well 😉  I did forget a tupper for salmon, so the woman put it on a styrofoam tray which is annoying, but I know for next time.

The rest of Saturday was super relaxed- I cleaned the house which was disgusting, Luis and I did some work for Bruja’s Bakery, I made butternut squash chili, and then we watched tv… but first we had a chili/guacamole/michelada dinner.

Oh!  Also we had a little visitor on Saturday night!  Someone posted in the English teacher assistant group that they needed someone to watch their dog for the night and I jumped on it!  Her name is Poppy and she was SO SWEET!

Teddy, are you ready to move to Spain?

SUNDAY

On Sunday, I woke up to take the dog out and then went back to sleep, just to wake up 2 hours later to find Poppy completely under the covers.  Her owner told me she would do it, but it was so funny to see!  She was like a big lump at the foot of the bed.

Sunday was much like Saturday- french toast breakfast, then Luis and I went for a run and did NTC (I am now very, very sore) and then we relaxed at home.  We cleaned more, did laundry, and worked on Bruja’s Bakery things.  And ate lunch.Madrid weekend

Around 8, we headed out to meet up with some of Luis’ friends for drinks and dinner for one of their birthdays.  I was not hungry, but we housed some huge burgers and plate of “American appetizers”!Madrid weekend Madrid weekend
