Well, hello there! And Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I feel like I am coming out of a hazy, pumpkin-scented fog! I haven’t checked in on here because not only have I not had time to sit down and write anything- I’ve barely had time to eat real, put-together meals, take showers that are longer than 4 minutes (great for the environment though), or feel sunshine on my skin! Why, you ask? Well, because it was PIE WEEK! What is Pie Week? Pie Week is the week from Saturday before Thanksgiving to the Saturday after Thanksgiving when I lock myself in my kitchen like some modern day Repuntzel and bake bake bake to satisfy all of the pie needs for Madrid. Well, not all of them, but at least 90 of them! That’s right- 7 days, 90+ pies.
After so much baking, I almost, ALMOST, didn’t have it in me to even bake a pie for my own Thanksgiving, but I did it and I’m glad I did because it gave me a chance to actually TRY some of the pie I was pawning off on people. It wasn’t half bad 😉 But anyway, if you can’t tell, I was totally, 110% POOPED after such a week- literally the most zombie I have ever been and I slept for a solid 12 hours on Saturday night and didn’t leave the house at all on Sunday. It was absolutely pouring rain all day on Sunday, so it was the perfect day to stay home in fuzzy pajamas, clean up the tornado from Thanksgiving, scrub pie filling off the walls, and make a nice turkey soup. It’s Monday morning and I have put everything back “in stock” on my website and the orders for this week have started rolling in (honestly, I wanted a little more of a break, but the money is nice and the boost of confidence that people MISS MY PRODUCTS is really welcomed). So here we are, Monday morning, a cup of (cold) coffee, still in my fuzzy pajamas, and getting organized for the week ahead. I don’t have to make any bagels today (I do have to make some dough, though), so I am using the day to organize my budget, get my orders in order (ha), go for a long walk to make up for my vitamin D deficiency from last week, and work on my new website, but before I do any of that, I wanted to pop in and share a little bit with ya’ll. Aka Dad….and occassionally, Mom.
So…let’s see….
Pie Pie Pie…
I took about 1000 photos with this pie so that I could post it on Instagram and announce the winner of my annual giveaway. I like to give away a pie each year as a thank you for all of the orders, but also it’s great marketing 😉
I made ONE delivery during Pie Week and as I was being shoved and pushed and had my nose in some smelly guy’s armpit on the metro, I vowed that I will NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!
Despite all of the CRAZINESS last week, Luis and I had a meeting in the local to decide what electrical/ plumbing work will be done. We also put down tape…use your imagination…it looks good, right!?
Just so I remember what to say when Forbes asks me “and Bruja, what was your first purchase before you earned billions?”, I can say “cream cheese cups. You need to have your priorities in order!”
Thanksgiving this year was great! I sold my last 3 pies on Saturday morning and then spent the day getting ready. We had about 17 attendees in total and a TON of food and it was a lot of fun. It blew my mind that all but 2 people were NEW to our Thanksgiving. That’s the nature of living abroad- people leave!! But that’s ok, I love making new friends and have this one night per year where we go all out. Plus, people said SUCH nice things about Luis and me and it made me feel very loved.
Of course, the ONLY pictures I got of actual people were these:
See the bags under my eyes? They are pumpkin pie-filled bags!
Other than that, I don’t have much to report on! This post has taken me far too long to write because I got side-tracked so I am about to get dressed and then head out for a walk and a podcast. Gotta soak up this retirement while I can!
Have a happy week!
