Santiago, Chile: Days 9- Now (Happy Hour, cooking class, a weekend trip to El Quisco)

Beekeeping Chile

Hello, hello!

Do you know what today isssssssssssssssss?  It’s 5 days before I get to go home!  We leave on Saturday and the thought of being home is very, very exciting.  I guess it’s obvious that I still am not really enjoying Santiago very much.  I still feel like a spoiled brat, but it’s just not what I was expecting and hoping for and I am ready for sunshine and swimming pools.

With that being said, the last few days have been decent enough (besides getting a cold and besides getting pooped on by a bird- BLACK SLIMY BIRD POOP!), things are just peachy.

I can’t exactly remember where I left off, but last week we did some interesting activities like learning to dance traditional Chilean dances (I watched and simultaneaously cursed the darkness because I was sniffly and sneezy and wanted to be at home) and then we also learned to make “sopapillas” which is a traditional Chilean pancake-like food that can be eaten sweet or salty.  They are made of squash and flour, but also had lard in them so again, I didn’t do much besides curse the darkness and think about how cold I was.  Good times (although I would like to make non-lard-filled sopaipillas one day).

On Saturday, we left for a quick weekend trip to a coastal town called El Quisco and I have to say, this little trip has been my absolute favorite thing we’ve done in the last 2 weeks.El Quisco, Chile

It was a weekend full of food from this very interesting looking restaurant…

The guy who owns the place made most of those tables!  The food was also very good, but I didn’t like that fried fish.

On the first day, we went hiking in this protected area called Quebrada de Cordova.Quebrada de cordova

And in the evening we had an astrology lesson, which would had been more interesting if it hadn’t been cloudy.

On Sunday, we spent the morning learning about beekeeping!  I actually really enjoyed that, but it’s safe to say I never want to be that close to bees ever again.

We got to try different honeys and taste the difference between honeys made from various flowers.

In the afternoon, we did a yoga class and then did a “fruit therapy” class which had potential, but the teacher automatically lost all credibility when he said we should be going poo as many times a day as we eat, and if not, your body is broken.  The yoga was great, though.

And that brings us to Monday!  This was my breakfast:

And this was my breakfast the other day (Mom, this is for you!)oatmeal bowl

And this is a pretty gross sandwich my coworker and I accidentally ordered the other day when we thought it was a traditional Chilean hotdog.

The end.  Have a nice week!
