The Wish Wall

I had these grand plans to do all of my homework and catch up on a ton of studying over spring break last week, but those exciting plans were easier said than done.  I was having a lot of trouble concentrating at home, so for a full afternoon, I convinced myself to go to the local library and try to bang out some anatomy studying.

Being in a different setting definitely helped, and after four solid hours of outlining, I decided to head home.  On my way out the door, my eye caught sight of these big, colorful canvases that were hanging on the wall.  Intrigued, I walked over and read the sign that accompanied them to see what they were.  Image

I know that photo is blurry, but the small paragraph says that a couple of people in my hometown went around and asked residents to write one wish, if they could wish for ANYTHING.  They even made a documentary about the process, which I haven’t seen.  I’m not quite sure what the overall purpose of the project was, but I assume it is to raise awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  On their website, it says, “Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has given hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions. From our humble beginnings with one boy’s wish to be a police officer, we’ve evolved into an organization that grants a child’s wish in the United States and its territories every 40 minutes.

I stood there and read every single wish, trying to picture the person behind the wish.  I tried to picture who they were and what led them to their wish.  There were a number of goal or profession-based wishes, which I imagine came mostly from children (be an actress, be on Broadway, be a teacher, have a large family, etc.).  There were wishes for our township, wishes for large and happy families, wishes for special nights with celebrities  There were so many wishes and I really enjoyed reading each and every one of them.

The Wish Wall got me thinking about what I would wish for if I had any one wish.  The thought is a bit daunting so much pressure comes with a decision like that!

Hmmm I could be a good person and wish for something like world peace, but I probably wouldn’t do that.

On the other hand, I could be really selfish and wish for a lot of money, because with a lot of money, I could get a lot of wishes, but I wouldn’t do that either.

I could make it simple and wish for lifelong happiness, but I think I can make that happen without wishing for it.

I could wish for health.

If I truly had the opportunity to make ONE wish, I have no idea what I would wish for.  I would probably end up wishing that I don’t have a heart attack from all the pressure that comes with a decision like that 😉

What would you wish for?
